Mega Entry-Level Hatchback Comparo

Datsun Redi-GO VS Maruti Suzuki ALTO VS Maruti Suzuki S-Presso VS Renault KWID

Datsun Redi-GO

Updated with a fresh, butch look, Datsun's Redi-GO also gets plenty more equipment, like a touchscreen infotainment system & dual-front airbags. The same lethargic 0.8 Ltr & gruff but sprightly 1.0 Ltr petrol engines continue in BS6 form. Competitive pricing is still the Redigo's forte.

FOR - Unique design, price & airy cabin.
AGAINST - Engine (0.8) & some obvious              cost cutting.
                                                                                    VERDICT - A Smart & spacious budget
                                                                                     hatchback but has its flaws.

Length - 3435mm
Width - 1575mm
Height - 1546mm
Wheelbase - 2348mm
Turning radius - 9.4mtrs
Boot Space - 222-514 Ltrs               PRICES ON-ROAD DELHI - ₹ 3.32-5.44 Lakhs
Ground Clearance - 187mm
Kerb Weight - 645 kg
Fuel Tank Capacity - 28 Ltrs

Maruti Suzuki ALTO

Maruti's updated gets mild design tweaks & more safety kit that helps it meet new norms. The biggest change is its BS6 engine. While efficiency has reduced slightly it is still zippy & feels nimble. The cabin though, is still cramped & it still it doesn't get goodies like a touchscreen like the Renault KWID does.

FOR - Fair performance, low-speed ride & affordability.
AGAINST - Cramped cabin, a few essential
                                                                                features still missing.
                                                                                VERDICT - The long-standing budget
champion but there are better options now.

Length - 3430mm
Width - 1490mm
Height - 1475mm
Wheelbase - 2360mm
Turning radius - 9.2 mtrs
Boot Space - 177 Ltrs                  PRICES ON-ROAD DELHI - ₹ 3.41-4.96 Lakhs
Ground Clearance - 160mm
Kerb Weight - 730-762 kg
Fuel Tank Capacity - 35 Ltrs

Maruti Suzuki S-Presso
Due to its gawky, high-riding proportions. Maruti's 'mini-SUV' won't help it win any beauty contests. Still the shape liberates plenty of cabin room & the top-spec versions are quite well-kitted. A highlight of the S-Presso is the BS6-spec 1.0 Ltr engine that's peppy, refined & frugal.

FOR - Airy Cabin & peppy engine.
AGAINST - Looks not to all tastes & light build.
VERDICT - An excellent budget hatchback                                                                                       but definitely not an SUV.

Length - 3565mm
Width - 1520mm
Height - 1549-1564mm
Wheelbase - 2380mm
Turning radius - 9mtrs
Boot Space - 240 Ltrs               PRICES ON-ROAD DELHI - ₹ 4.25-5.65 Lakhs
Ground Clearance - 180mm
Kerb Weight - 726-767kg
Fuel Tank Capacity - 27 Ltrs

Renault KWID

Now even better to look at & with more equipment, the refreshed KWID is expected to be an even bigger success than the outgoing model. It's got the essentilals - space, comfort & practicality & it's a desirable budget hatch. The 1.0 litre motor is the right pick, AMT gearbox adds convenience.

FOR - Price, Practicality & equipment levels.
AGAINST - Dull engine (0.8) & average quality.
VERDICT - Unique budget car that breaks the
                                                                                mould but not your pocket.

Length - 3731mm
Width - 1579mm
