modern.
Some elements in the interior have also received some updates with the new Alturas. The gear-lever has been changed to a much modern-looking piece. It successfully gives the car a modern appeal on the inside. The steering wheel has also been updated to a D-cut one which comes with paddle shifters. The new steering wheel looks stunning and completely matches the premium of the infotainment setup and the interior as a whole.
Moreover, the NVH levels have been heavily controlled, making it one of the best cars in its segment in terms of NVH level control.
New Safety Feature
The Mahindra Alturas has been updated in terms of safety as well. The new one gets Trailer Sway Control (TCS), meaning the user can tow a trailer without having to worry much as the system will automatically stabilize the sway of the attached unit.
Updated engine & transmission
The Mahindra Alturas now gets a more powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine which is capable of producing 200bhp and 441Nm of torque. The power bump is a considerable 20bhp. Moreover, the transmission has been updated to an 8-speed automatic that is produced by Hyundai Transys.
New Features
The Mahindra Alturas now comes with updated features like seatbelt reminder for every occupant, rear cabin sleep mode that allows the passenger to limit the sound to the front speakers and multi-pairing Bluetooth connectivity. Moreover, a ‘talk function has also been introduced with the help of which 2nd & 3rd-row passengers can converse with the front row passengers via mic and speakers.
Will it come to India ?
Mahindra acquired Ssyangyong Motors 10 years ago. After this acquisition, Rexton became the first product to be launched. The Rexton launched in 2012 for the Indian markets. Although the Rexton was a great product, the lack of knowledge of the new brand drained the sale numbers of the car.
The SsangYong Rexton was later rebadged as Mahindra Alturas G4. However, the Alturas although being a great car was suppressed by the Mahindra badge. Prospective buyers could not relate to a premium SUV from the brand. With sales figures dwindling, Mahindra has been trying to let-go of the Korean brand. With the substantially low sales, it is highly unlikely that the updated Alturas would come to the country. However, the end result would be clear only after Mahindra takes the final call.
