Honda Jazz
Honda has given the Jazz a minor refresh and rejigged the line-up. There's a new top trim that gets a sunroof but the flexible 'magic' rear seats are gone. Still, it is a car that aces on practicality with its spacious, well-thought out cabin. The petrol auto gets paddle-shifters as standard and is the pick of the lot.

Hyundai i20

Like its predecessors, the 3rd-Gen of Hyundai's premium hatchback takes things forward by a significant amount. Equipment, space, comfort and driveability have improved by a good margin and there are now three engine options to choose from. All this does come with a hefty price tag though.

Maruti Suzuki Nexa Baleno
Maruti's largest hatch is attractive, spacious and well-equipped. The Standard 1.2-litre Petrol engine and the 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol are quiet efficient - the latter adds some green credentials too. Spacious as it is, cabin quality isn't great but on the whole Baleno is a smart choice.

Tata Altroz

The Altroz definitely makes a good first impression. It's great to look at, is spacious and practical enough, and the entertaining driving dynamics add to its appeal. The weak Petrol engine is a step-up from the standard Petrol, but fails to excite.

Toyota Glanza

Essentially a rebadged Maruti Baleno, there's very little to differentiate between them. The Glanza gets the same peppy 1.2-litre Petrol and efficient 1.2-litre Petrol-Hybrid options and has the same manual and CVT gearbox options. Keener pricing for the Hybrid and Toyota's longer warranty are reasons to consider one over a Baleno.
