SUVs have become the new craze in the Indian market. The C-segment SUV segment is especially popular as these SUVs provide space and ease of use. This segment is dominated by the Hyundai Creta. But new entrants like the Kushaq & Astor are also raking in good numbers. Another new car to enter this segment will be the SUV developed in collaboration by Maruti & Toyota. In today’s article, we will see a Rs 10 lakh SUV that will undercut Creta & Astor.

RS 10 LAKH SUV PLATFORM & DESIGN

This SUV will be based on Toyota’s TNGA (Toyota’s New Global Architecture) platform. It will be the first vehicle based on the TNGA platform in India. This platform is even capable of using different types of drivetrains. Design-wise this SUV will get a lot of Toyota design cues. But both brands may give some changes like a different grille and body panels to differentiate the two.

SPECIFICATIONS

Which powertrains will be offered is still a mystery, but it is expected to get Maruti’s 1.5-litre petrol engine coupled with a hybrid system from Toyota. Toyota might offer a diesel engine on this SUV.  Maruti & Toyota could also offer a turbo engine considering all the competition cars have one. Transmission options will likely include a manual and an automatic gearbox.

RS 10 LAKH SUV-FEATURES

Features have become an important selling point in the Indian market. So Toyota & Maruti will load this SUV with features like a 360-degree camera, a 10-inch infotainment system, ventilated seats, wireless chagring, ambient lighting, electric sunroof, connected car technology, front & rear sensors, ESP and Multiple airbags.

LAUNCH & PRICING

There is no official confirmation from Toyota or Maruti. But the test mules of the car are spotted regularly hinting towards a launch in 2022. The pricing of this SUV is expected to start from Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).

Expected Prices - ₹ 10-18 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom)
Rivals - Hyundai CRETA, KIA Seltos, Mahindra XUV700 (5Str), MG Astor, Nissan Kicks, Renault Duster, Skoda Kushaq, Tata Harrier & Volkswagen Taigun.
