Tata Motors is about to launch CNG variants of Tiago and Tigor. These two cars will be the first models from Tata Motors to get factory-fitted CNG kits. Tiago CNG has started to arrive at company dealerships across India. Other models like Altroz, Punch, and Nexon will also be seen with a CNG variant later on. In this article, we will discuss what the Tata Tiago CNG has to offer Indian buyers.

Tata Tiago CNG Design

The design of the new Tiago CNG variant will be identical to its petrol counterparts. The only thing that differentiates these cars will be the i-CNG logo at the rear. The interiors of the cars will also be identical. Even the list of features remains unchanged. The major difference is the CNG cylinder that occupies most of the boot space.

Engine

A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit powers both Tiago and Tigor. This engine produces 85bhp and 113Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a five-speed gearbox. The CNG variant is expected to produce a bit less power and torque, but the engine will deliver a fuel efficiency of around 30km/kg. the CNG Variant of Tiago and Tigor is expected to be expensive by Rs 50,000 to Rs 65,000 over their petrol variants.

Features

When it comes to features, both Tiago and Tigor CNG will be offering creature comforts like automatic climate control, rear defogger with a wiper, cooled glove box, an eight-speaker Harman music system, and a seven-inch touch screen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of safety, the Tiago CNG will get dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, and corner stability control.

Competition

Currently, Maruti Suzuki dominates the CNG segment. They have multiple models with factory-fitted CNG kits such as Wagon R, Alto, S-Presso, and Eeco. They are also planning to bring in CNG variants in their other popular cars like the Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Vitara Brezza, and new-generation Celerio. Hyundai is also active in the CNG segment with a car like Santro CNG, Grand i10 CNG, and Aura CNG. Tata Motors will be stepping into the CNG segment with two of their most affordable car. this move from Tata Motors will surely cause a slump in the sales figures of Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai.

Expected Prices - ₹ 5-7 Lakh (Ex-Showroom)
Rivals - Hyundai Santro, Maruti Suzuki Celerio & Maruti Suzuki WagonR
